Arnold schwarzenegger's nemesis. Currently starring on "x-files," here's robert patrick. [ Cheers and applause ] Regis: Congratulations. RP: Thank you. Kelly: Now, you look dangerous. Regis: Absolutely. RP: Do i really? Regis: The perfect guy for "x-files." You got that look about you. RP: I look like an fbi agent. Regis: Even more menacing than that. RP: Maybe i could be an alien or something? Is that what you're saying? Kelly: Possibly. We don't know. Regis: Yeah. Absolutely. So, anyway, congratulations. RP: Thank you regis. Regis: Great show. Plum role. RP: An amazing experience. We just wrapped last week, and the growth they did with the character is phenomenal. It's actually one of the best once i've ever done, and it fits so nice into my life right now. Regis: I bet everybody remembers you working with schwarzenegger and "the terminator." RP: That seems to be the big thing. Regis: That fight scene you had there. RP: Yeah. [ Applause ] RP: I had a heck of a time doing the fight scene with arnold. Remember in the movie i had this large -- rod, and i was beating arnold over the back, and he had that prossthetic arm. I was supposed to hit the prosthetic. I missed and hit his real arm. He turned over and looked add me ah, rob, that was my real arm. He was such a pro. Never flinched. It was a great tape. For the rest of the movie i sat there waiting, what's the retaliation going to be? Regis: Right. RP: How you doing, buddy? Regis: He and arnold are still close. When we come back, we'll show you a clip from the new guy in "x-files." Okay? [commercial break] Regis: Robert patrick from "x-files" with us now. A life-alters experience years ago that you had got you involved as an actor? RP: I had done acting as a child. Right after college, i really was sort of wandering around. I wasn't sure what i wanted to do. I was in a boating accident on lake erie that happened very fast, and i ended up having to swim for about 3 1/2 hours to get to the shore of cleveland, and during that time while i was swimming, of course, i was telling myself, if i make it, if i don't stop swimming, if i keep swimming, i'll try to follow through on some of the things i thought i wanted to do. Acting being one of them. Two months later, i was in hollywood. It was a major kick in the side of the head, we'll say. Regis: Sometimes it takes something like that to get you kick started. RP: For me it did. I had a fear of actually trying to fulfill this. Regis: It happened. I don't know if i could swim for 3 1/2 hours. That's something. RP: It really easy. Regis: Let's look at a clip. In this particular scene, agent doggett is -- [Robert Patrick Looks Away] RP: i'm sorry. Regis: We'll take care of that. You look at us. Kelly: We're professionals here. RP: Follow direction. Okay. Regis: He's not sure about whether he's feeling guilty over the death of his son. He's not sure he did everything possible to prevent the tragedy. Take a look. [Clip of Doggett and Reyes from Empedocles:] Doggett: I got to believe i did everything i could to save him. To get him back safe. To not let him down. I got to believe that i did everything humanly possible, because if i can't believe that, and these other possibilities that you talk about, that mulder talks about, that agent scully talks about, if they're real, if they're real, then -- that's something else i could have done to save my son. [end X-Files clip] Regis: Good voice. Huh? Strong. John doggett from "x-files." Kelly: Robert patrick! Regis: Having a lot of fun with robert patrick. Don't forget, john doggett, the new character on "x-files." [ applause ]
